As the Chicago Hounds donned their blue and grays between the Walther Lutheran track and the reliably asphalt-stiff baseball diamond, a familiar, loud, goofy laugh echoed across the field. And out of the Chicago ether through a swirling dust cloud walked Mike DiCola, uniform untucked and three top buttons characteristically neglected.

On a brisk Sunday morning at Winnemac, the Hounds and Jammers combined for a total of 23 hits, with the former claiming a bit over the majority for the 10-6 win in a game that never felt out of reach.

Potential Hounds Comeback Stymied by Lights
The Dodgers handed the Hounds their first lost of the season 5-7 Tuesday night at Simeon, thanks to a big fifth inning and an early shutdown of the field’s lights.

Foggy Sells Caps Foggy Opener with Homer

Now that the Hounds roster is just about set, thought I’d take some time to talk about the changes this year.
Nick Albanese
Nick joins us from Kankakee College via Purdue Northwest. He’s the obligatory annual hounds lefty pitcher add. His repertoire includes a knuckleball and he missed a preseason game because he was turkey hunting.
Kameron Miller
Kam was referred to us by Cole Thompson, but let’s not hold that against him. He’s a righty who pitched for hope college and he played some infield in high school.
Samuel Ortiz
Samuel comes to us from our burgeoning Venezuela-to-Winnemac talent pipeline. Most of his baseball history is therefore off-the-books. Word has it he has some of the softest hands in the business.
Eric Frontzak
Eric was a late season add. A Naperville native, he pitched for the Alama Scots in the same conference as Kam. Jules met him walking in the street.

Not Returning
Steve Szymanski
Steve Szymanski is taking the time to focus on his day job as an anesthesiologist. He leaves behind a doctor/medical-professional hole on the hounds.
Alberto Martinez
Alberto relocated to Dallas to work for “Robinson Chirinos 7AR Baseball Academy.” I’ve been told that he occasionally gets paid to catch in Men’s league games down there. He doesn’t even have to manage.
