Hounds are 2-2

The Hounds lost to the Vikings in a darkness/lateness-shortened game tonight by a score of 10-6 after only 5 innings. The Hounds now have a 2-2 record with 29 regular season games remaining in the 2019 schedule. The Hounds were down 10-5 going into the last inning that started at 7:58 pm (the CMBA bylaws state that an inning cannot start after 8:00 pm if the field does not have lights). The Hounds scored a run and had the bases loaded in the final frame with 2 outs, and Brian Lehman (#2, 3B) sent a rocket shot to center field that surely would have cleared the bases scoring 3 more runs, but the centerfielder for the Vikings stabbed it to end the game.

Hounds win on Mother’s Day

The Chicago Hounds slaughtered the Garcia family today 13-1 in 5 innings at Winnemac Park on Mother’s Day. The newly formed Trojans were overmatched by their former teammates, managing to plate only 1 run in the slaughter-shortened game (by league rule, 15+ after 4 innings, 12+ after 5 or 6 innings). It was a very cold and windy day at Winnemac, and the Hounds took advantage of the Trojans, as it might be said after at K’s, “maybe it had never growed forward” (I honestly do not know what that means, but I wrote it down).

Hounds win!

The Chicago Hounds defeated Ramirez Baseball 7-3 today at a sloppy, sloppy, almost unplayable Maywood Veterans Memorial Park on Laura Grieger’s graduation day!

Nick Schmidt (#23, P) threw 6 solid innings to avenge last year’s loss to Ramirez, striking out 8, and giving up only 2 earned runs on 1 hit and 4 walks. Rookie “Lanky Charlie” or “Big Z” Phil Zelenka (#24, P) closed the game out pitching the final frame with a K and 1 unearned run.

Second Successful Scrimmage

The Hounds defeated/lost to/tied(?) the Pirates at Veterans Memorial Maywood Park today (I actually have no idea of the score, it was a scrimmage). The field was underwater at 9:00 am, so for the second occasion this April the Hounds worked to get the game in by working the land. 5 full bags of quick dry and a lot of raking did the trick (well 4+ full bags, quite a bit was deposited in the back seat of my car). It was a blustery day, as the wind was really howling in from centerfield, making every fly ball an adventure (just like the Cubs/Diamondbacks games the last two days).
