On a brisk Sunday morning at Winnemac, the Hounds and Jammers combined for a total of 23 hits, with the former claiming a bit over the majority for the 10-6 win in a game that never felt out of reach.

Sunday starter Atticus Conway served up 5 innings of work, allowing only 2 earned runs. Helping himself out, the young hurler also managed to record an impressive 3 putouts and 2 assists, including starting a double play and three pick-offs.

For most of the morning, the game was a close tit-for-tat one run game. After a scoreless first, the Jammers would go up in the top of the second, scoring only one time on a line drive to a diving Brandon Jessee (RF). Although the veteran did not come up with the catch, he was able to field the bouncing ball and (following a brief, unsuccessful sell-job) fired a relay via Matt Burch (1B) to catch the would-be second run at the plate, halting the inning with only one run of damage. The Hounds retaliated in the bottom of the third, catching up to opposing pitcher Mike “Big Pasta” Primavera who nearly became a Hound in 2021 before a car-accident forced him to sit that season out. Lehman (LF) would start it off with a one-out single. Joe Malafronte (3B), who hit the ball on the button all day, whacked an RBI single. Samuel Ortiz (SS) recorded his first Hounds hit on a hard grounder through the left side, and Matt Steffens recorded his latest of many recorded hits on the next at-bat (this one for an RBI, also one of many). Pedro Rondon (EH) finished the scoring with a line drive RBI.

The Jammers put up 2 in the fourth to tie, but the Hounds responded in the bottom of the frame, and never looked back. The sixth inning would be the decisive set of nails for the coffin, the Doggos hammering 6 runs, including a pair of RBIs on a flyball single by Phil Zelenka (LF), making the game 10-3. Relieving rookie Nick Albanese suppressed the formerly-known-as DX squad, allowing 3 hits in 2 innings of work and smothering a comeback effort in the last inning to end the game on a strike-em-out-throw-em-out 4th out.

The Hounds improved to 4-1 with the victory and will have a few days off before they head to Park Ridge to take on the Marlins Thursday afternoon.
