In a game half played without an umpire, the Hounds cruised to a loss Sunday morning vs. the Marlins by a score of 5-1.
Atticus Conway turned in a quality performance by tossing strikes and offering no walks, but was not helped by the defense behind him who combined for 5 errors resulting in an 1 earned run loss for the youngster. The Hounds almost got off to a fast start when veteran Brandon Jessee (CF) drove a ball to left field but fell victim advancing to second thanks to the infamous short wall. They would be scoreless until the fourth, when, profiting from this same short wall, Brian “Every Position But One” Lehman (SS) took the familiar Marlins hurler deep with a blast to right. A lead-off single in the following inning by Phil Zelenka (3B) would be the last offense mustered on the day, as he (on a double play) and the next 8 consecutive batters were retired to end the game.
The defeat marked the second in as many days for the Puppers. Hopefully some time off will do some good for when the Hounds rematch the Marlins on Thursday afternoon at Southwest.
