The Hounds evened the series to two wins a piece with a swift 4-2 win over their rivals at Loyola Academy Thursday night.
Atticus Conway started the game, marking the early-to-rise working man’s first start since June 20. He pummeled the zone at a strike rate of 72%, claiming 6 strikeout victims.
The Electrons threatened early, the 1-2 hitters both reaching base safely. With runners at second and third and one out, catcher/manager/owner Correa (C) threw up four fingers in the face of international star Steve Anderson to load the bases and set-up the force play. Atticus heeded the challenge thrown down and struck out the five and six hitters to neutralize the threat.
The Hounds, in turn, converted a Sells (SS) first-pitch leadoff single on a pair of singles by Lehman (RF/P) and Jessee (CF) to take the lead. They tacked on two more in the following inning scoring both single-base-hitters Warren Ciabattoni (1B) and Tony Correa on a deep Albanese sac and another Lehman single.
The Trons clawed one in the third, working a lead-off walk, then moving him over on a mound comebacker that made a stop inside Conway’s jersey necessitating the fielder’s choice, and finally plating the runner on a double. And in the fourth, they clawed one more with a deep drive HR after a marathon 14-pitch at-bat.
In the home half, Albanese compensated for the HR with an RBI double, setting the lead at 4-2. After the starter’s exit in the sixth, Lehman took the hill and faced down the game’s seven remaining batters, ending the game on a full-count, uncle charlie strikeout of the 2-hitter.
The victorious Doggo defense looked much improved, accounting for only 1 error. The defensive effort helped result in a brisk game, with a run time of under two hours. A few players and WAGs trekked to Sunny Day Tavern where one nameless player needed to make a costume change of his rank, bunched-up-wet and unwashed jersey before entering. The next contest takes place on Tuesday when they’ll take on the Sox at Baseball Alley.
