Maywood Grounds Crew Beats Browns

After preparing the wet Maywood Park for play, the Hounds handed the Browns another loss in a bittersweet 4-1 victory Sunday morning.

After losing starting pitcher Jules Cantor (#34) to injury in the first inning, the Hounds rallied around reliever Brian Lehman (#2, EH/P) who provided 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball.

Catcher/Manager Tony Correa (#13) started the scoring in the top of the first, knocking in Arron Kruse (#11, 3B) on an infield line drive. The other two runs came courtesy of Brandon Jessee (#3, CF), who, nursing an injury, flipped sides of the plate and batted in two runs. Phil Zelenka (#24, 2B) found openings in all three of his plate appearances, tallying 3 singles, and Greg Sells (#19, SS) stayed hot, adding 2 more hits to his name. The Browns were rather flat, their only run coming on a sacrifice fly in the first, a sac fly that was converted into a double play on a failed first to second tag-up thanks to a Schmidt (#23, LF), Sells, and Zelenka relay.

With the win, the Chicago Hounds improved their record to 7-8 on the year. They’ll look to get to .500 with their game against the tied-for-first Dodgers Tuesday Night at Simeon HS
