Let me start by saying I hope you and your loved ones have been able to successfully and healthfully navigate these uncertain times. Although the statewide and nationwide quarantines have been difficult, it seems to have been effective in preventing the worst of outcomes.
I wanted to inform you that with the Illinois governors extension of the stay-at-home, the 2020 CMBA season has been delayed. While the news probably doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone, it’s also not the way we visualized opening day during the offseason. It’s been a rollercoaster of a spring. The kind of rollercoaster that you ride in the living room, watching reruns and eating gummy bears, in your sweatpants.
The situation as well as government officials will continue to dictate how the season unfolds. The CMBA is currently planning for three different scenarios, one starting June 1, one June 15, and one July 1. I will update you as it develops.
In the meantime, I know I’ll continue to dream about sunny days at Winnemac Park, cold beers at K’s, and a breakfast burrito at El Catrin. Let’s hope we continue to flatten the curve to the point that baseball doesn’t just make sense, it’s obviously the right thing to do.
And when we do, we’ll have a few more curves to flatten… to Foster Avenue.
