The Chicago Hounds did not appear at K’s Dugout today, after spending 6 hours at an intermittently rainy baseball field at Winnemac Park only to lose both games of a split doubleheader. The Hounds are now 9-9 on the season after losing to the Browns 7-6 in extra innings in the first game and losing to the Aviators 8-6 in the second.
There were some highlights–Nick Schmidt (#23, CF/LF/P) had a home run and a double in the 4 spot in the second game and a triple in the first game. Garrett Eddy (#22, RF/CF/P) had two triples and two singles in the first game and pitched spectacularly in the first game as well, striking out 8 batters in 2.2 innings pitched (the 8 Ks were all of the outs in those innings).
But these were heartbreaking losses to two of the better teams in the CMBA. The Hounds scored enough to win both games, they just gave away too many runs on defense, through inattention (the Browns won on a walk-off steal of home in between batters), and the Hounds were even bested by the hidden ball trick at third base.
The Hounds next play the Vikings at Winnemac on Wednesday at 5:50 pm. Hopefully they get the win and are mentally up for an after-game celebration at K’s.
