The Chicago Hounds are now 3-3 after losing 13-8 to the formerly winless Pirates at a sloppy Proviso East baseball field today. It was sunny, but after the flash flood watch last night, Maywood was unplayable–despite the clear lie by the opposing manager who claimed it was playable prior to the game. But, I am happy with my apology. Frankly, that started an overall lousy day. But hey, Stephen Correa Jr. got his number 5 jersey and was on the winning side with Lili and Maddie, so all good.

The Hounds defense gave up 6 errors in the first 2 innings allowing the first 8 Pirate runs. The Hounds pitchers gave up a combined 12 walks and hit by pitches. The Hounds have historically been great on the mound and the field, with the main struggle being hitting (well, to be honest, and baserunning).
But the 2019 Hounds are a very fine hitting team, and have now scored 58 runs in their first 6 games.

Rookie Nick Ingram (#36, LF) led the Hounds offense with 3 left field gap doubles, driving in 3 runs, following up his home run in the last game with style (and he scored 1 run). His 3 doubles were all the more remarkable because the wind was howling in–had we played at Maywood he may have had 3 home runs (as the field faces the opposite direction). Alex Mora (#16, 2B) left his firefighting shift with zero sleep but managed a single and an RBI smash triple to right (and he scored). Tim Riggenbach (#8, RF) also had a run scoring double (and he scored as well). Rookie Joe Johnston (#20, EH/1B) reached base safely 3 times (and he scored a run as well). Other runs were scored by Brian Lehman (#2, 3B), TJ Rinaldi (#1, CF), Matt Burch (#6, 1B/P), and Matthew Steffens (#5, SS). Casey Peterson (#30, DH) had an RBI sac fly.

Hounds fans in attendance included the tried and true triumvirate: Mel, Laura, and Anne. However, none partook in the high school parking lot Bud Lights or the lunch at Scratch Kitchen & Lounge–and they were missed.

The Hounds also were very pleased to welcome back Max Keifer to the field (home from Boston), as Max helped keep the book and coached first base.

The Hounds look to get back on the winning side with a game tomorrow v. the Red Sox at 12:15 pm at Winnemac Park.
