Hounds Hold Fish to 1 HR, Win Game

The Chicago Hounds battled the undefeated Park Ridge Marlins at beautiful Southwest Park on Sunday morning. The Hounds came into the game hot off two wins and one pizza party at K’s dugout.

Atticus Conway (P) took the mound for the Mutts in his second appearance of the season and looked sharp outside of a 335-foot laser in the bottom of the first inning. The rookie Conway settled in thereafter, allowing one additional run through the fifth inning, striking out seven.

The Hounds tied the game at two a piece in the top of the second inning on a walk, error and sac fly. Notably, Brandon Jessee (DH/LF) got the team’s first hit of the game, and his first hit of the season. Phil O (RF) walked in the 6th and scored on a Szymanski (CF) groundout to tie the game. Greg Sells (EH) was then cut down at the plate by the Marlin’s centerfielder on a close play at home to keep the game tied 3-3.

Mike DiCola (LF/P) made his second appearance in as many days, relieving Conway, and all of Hounds nation who experienced his opening day outing. DiCola notched the win he deserved in his Saturday start, closing the door on the Marlins’ scoring through the final two frames by inducing six groundouts to Arron Kruse (SS) at shortstop. Acting as judge, jury and executioner DiCola also notched the win with the bat, doubling in the top of the 7th to drive in Joe Malafronte (3B).

The Hounds convened at Outback post-game, where they did body shots off of Nick Schmidt. After requesting and upon being presented with one combined check for the whole team, the Hounds did not tip. They then proceeded to Moretti’s have the wildest night of their lives. #rudeboys

Shout out to former Hound TJ Rinaldi who made an appearance at the game, along with both Big T’s, the Queen of England, Phil O’s dad, Laura, and two onion lovers.

Editor’s Note: Postgame and attendant descriptions wildly exaggerated by the author, excepting the bit about onions.
