11 + 11 = 23

In a game that was delayed ten minutes by a surprise rain shower, the Chicago Hounds (10-1) toppled the Taft Vikings (4-3) on July 26 in beautiful Veterans Park.

Sunday’s 15-3 slaughter was technically led by Anthony Correa (#13, class of 2015) who did have 5 RBIs. Tim Riggenbach (#8, class of 2015) also played, pitching the whole five-inning game, allowing three runs, striking out five (83 pitches – 64% strikes). The Hounds played solid defensively. Every Hound that got in the game either scored or had an RBI.

The real story of the day (and maybe our lifetime) is that we are still yet to wake up from Nick Schmidt’s wildest dream. The hard-slugging G.O.A.T. (#23, class of 2018) added another two hits (including a triple) to his 2020 MVP-caliber campaign, bringing his OPS up to a heavyset 1.593. Mr. Swagger also had a stolen base, and reached on an error. Schmidt has now scored 11 runs and has 11 RBIs through the Hound’s first 11 games (a stat that you may find satisfying if you have OCD).

Post-game beers supplied by Hans Hetrick (class of 2007) and “Big T” Correa (father, class clown), were enjoyed by the Hounds and fans.

Tune in Tuesday night to watch Schmidt throw a perfect game against the Marlins.
